John Mayer Donates $20,000 to School Marching Band

I got this one from another John Mayer fan.  Thanks lambkinsrn!

This is a cause in the community in which he grew up.

When the Norwalk Marching Bears field house burned in August, destroying instruments, uniforms and music stands, the donations poured in.

Children emptied their piggybanks and sold lemonade, and many people wrote checks to contribute most of the $90,000 in individual gifts that the band received.

But a few high-profile names also came to the rescue.

Organizers this week said they received $20,000 from Grammy-winning guitarist John Mayer, who was born in Bridgeport, grew up in Fairfield and spent time in Norwalk when he was enrolled in the Center for Global Studies at Brien McMahon High School, known then as the Center for Japanese Studies Abroad.

Mayer’s is the largest of 300 individual donations.
